How We Research
Every guide on ChipperChimney starts with one question: will this product work for the person who is shopping for it? For our pizza oven guides, that means your space, your fuel and how many pizzas you want to cook at once.
Here is how we answer it.
1. We start with your space and your fuel
A gas oven, a wood or pellet oven and an electric countertop oven suit different homes. A patio, a backyard and a kitchen counter each set their own limits.
We check the fuel type, the size of pizza the oven fits and the setup the maker lists. When your space or fuel limits the choice, we say what to check first.
2. We compare specs and features
We look at the top temperature the maker lists, heat-up time, the baking stone or surface, weight, and whether the oven folds or needs a stand. For electric ovens we look at power draw and countertop size.
Ooni, Gozney, Ninja and Solo Stove describe their ovens in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim. We also note the warranty terms the maker lists.
3. We look at buyer feedback
We read through what buyers report after using an oven. We look for patterns, like uneven heat, long heat-up times, fuel that burns fast, tricky assembly or parts that rust.
One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.
4. We score each product
Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. An oven that's great for a big patio may score lower in a guide written for a small space.
Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.
5. We keep pages up to date
Products change, and some disappear from stores. Ooni, Gozney and Ninja each sell several ovens with similar names, and some come in bundles, so we check each model name and code, and we only link new units.
When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.
What our picks are not
Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have used every oven we cover.
Outdoor gas, wood and pellet ovens are for outdoor use only. They get very hot and give off carbon monoxide, so follow the maker's manual for placement, fuel and clearance from walls, roofs and anything that burns.
Indoor electric ovens have their own rules, so follow the manual for those too. When a maker makes a claim, we label it as the maker's claim.
